About the process:
Dreams are postcards from the subconscious. Most people return them without any more than a glance. I don’t, I draw what I see on the front, turn them over and read the back. Often, I wonder if the art I create is the postage due.
When someone draws from their dreams, they are composing a visual poem with hidden metaphor, context clues and precise placement of elements. Each is a visual expression of the ongoing dialogue between the conscious and the subconscious.
My Dream Catcher’s Net consists of a pencil and paper. I sketch the dream when it’s fresh in my mind. It is much like being given the first few words to a joke I can’t remember. That hook is enough to bring the entire joke streaming back.
Once the hook is set, I can slowly draw the dreams from the dark, deep waters of the subconscious to the shore of consciousness.
